Innovation, our engine of sustainable development

To ensure the sustainability of the business, Enerfín has sought, since the beginning of its activity, innovative solutions to the challenges and difficulties it has encountered, being a pioneer in the sector with many of its projects, both in the environmental and technological fields as well as in the financial or energy sales management.

The largest wind farm in Spain was developed, with 128 MW, which incorporated rigorous measures to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the area. This wind farm, which became a benchmark in Galicia, incorporated, among other innovations, a system of cameras and sensors that made it possible to reinforce the fight against forest fires.

Enerfín installed the Osório wind complex in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, the largest in the southern hemisphere and a true example of the integration of renewable energies in the environment, which led the municipality of Osório to be designated by the state as “Terra dos Bons Ventos”.

The L'Érable wind farm marked Enerfín's entry into North America, with a project that represented a real challenge both in the development and construction phases and whose financial structuring was recognized, as was that of Osorio, with the “Deal of the Year” award from Euromoney magazine.

Enerfín carried out one of the first repowering of wind farms in Spain, replacing the wind turbines of its Malpica project after 20 years of operation. Likewise, in 2019 it installed its first battery, associated with its Montes de Cierzo Wind Farm (Navarra) and began working on its first hybridization projects.

Enerfín is currently immersed in several innovation projects, also participating in numerous associations and conferences and collaborating with universities and technology centers.

Hybridization

Enerfín is developing hybrid projects in some of its wind farms in operation or in the advanced phase of processing, in which it will install photovoltaic power without increasing the total power connected to the grid.

To do this, it has selected sites with good complementarity of wind and solar resources, which will allow it to minimize energy losses and increase the response capacity to voltage fluctuations in the network. Para ello ha seleccionado emplazamientos con buena complementariedad de recurso eólico y solar, lo que le permitirá minimizar las pérdidas de energía e incrementar la capacidad de respuesta ante oscilaciones de tensión en la red.

Energy Storage

In the Montes de Cierzo wind farm (Navarra), Enerfín operates a Tesla battery with which it is carrying out an R&D&I project to analyze different energy management strategies in real time and optimize energy management generated by the wind farm.

Bet on Green Hydrogen

The generation, storage and commercialization of green hydrogen is going to be a key activity in the decarbonization of the economy worldwide, allowing greater penetration of renewable energies in electrical systems and contributing to the reduction of the impact of activities with high rates of emissions, such as heavy transport and cogeneration.

Enerfín is processing its first green hydrogen production project in the Exterior port of A Coruña. Likewise, it has signed a collaboration agreement with the government of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil, to develop a similar project in the main state port.

Predictive Maintenance

The increase in power in operation and the greater maturity of renewable assets demands the continuous optimization of the management processes of the operation and maintenance of the infrastructures, towards a model with a high predictive component.

Enerfín is immersed in a project to digitize predictive maintenance processes by applying artificial intelligence and big data technologies, with the help of companies specialized in advanced data analytics.

Cybersecurity

The use of “IoT” (“Internet of Things”) systems in generation plants for greater control of operation management processes is increasingly widespread and must be accompanied by the development of communication procedures and architectures. more secure. Enerfín participates in the European research project ELECTRON, funded by the EU through the H2020 program, which aims to develop a platform capable of enhancing data privacy and the resilience of energy systems against cyber attacks.
